The Qualification trail of “the 21stFLTRP Cup National Debate Competition” in Yanbian University
The Qualification trail of “the 21st FLTRP Cup National Debate Competition” in Yanbian University, which was sponsored by Yanbian University Communist Youth League Council, Yanbian University Office of Academic Affairs and held by College of Foreign Languages of Yanbian University and English Speech and Debate, started at 18:00 on December 8, 2017 in the conference hall. Zheng Xianri, Dean of College of Foreign Languages, Jiang Yingxiu, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Office, Jin Minghao, Director of the English major, Jin Chunxian, Director of the Student Work Officeof College of Foreign Languages and Guo Xiandan, Secretary of the Communist Youth League of College of Foreign Languages and Counselor of Japanese department came as guests to encourage students. The judges were Foreign Teacher Sam Beard, Megan, Professor Li Hongmei, Professor Ji Mingli and Professor Wu Haiyan.
Through the school-wide self-registration, there were more than 120 players taking part in preliminary round.After three weeks’ of fierce competition, there were only eight students to make it to the final. With the motion "THBT Cheating in a test should be sentenced", both sides of the debaters clarified their positions in a smooth and vivid way, explained the pros and cons of "being cheated in the examination should be sentenced to punishment" to everyone in the room, winning one after another rounds of applause.
As a result, Opening Government won the first place, Closing Government won the second, Opening Opposition and Closing Opposition won the third. Luo Yan and Wu Rui won the best debater. Luo Yan won the best pronunciation award. Wang Ziyue won the best performance award and Liu Xinyuan won the best manner award.
In the end, Judge Megan made detailed comments towards different performance of the contestants and made best wishes for the two best debaters who is going to represent our school to go for North-Eastern Division of “the 21st FLTRP Cup National Debate Competition”.
