FengRui from Japanese Major Won the Grand Prize of the “58thJapanese Speech Contest for Foreigners of Japan”
On June 17th, the “58thJapanese Speech Contest for Foreigners of Japan” was held in ZhuBo city Japan. FengRui, a student from YanBian Unversity studying in Ryukyu University as an exchange student, stood out from the crowd for his great performance and won great prizes—the “Grand Prize” and the “Award for the Committee of General Assembly Review” which was voted by the audience.
The “Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners of Japan” was held by the Japan International Exchange and Japan Society for the Promotion of Education. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agency for Cultural Affairs and NHK also assisted in organizing this contest. This contest, being held 58 times, has the highest level, longest history, and largest scale and is the most affected speech contest among various speech contests for foreigners held in Japan. Through several months’ preliminary selection, 12 contestants from 11 countries entered the final.
Combining his process of learning Japanese, FengRui vividly explained the difficulty and importance of mutual understanding for people from different cultural background with his humorous words. He gained the good remarks of the judges, and he also convinced the present audience. The fact that FengRui won the highest prize in the final created a historical record for our university. He was a non- Korean-Chinese student in the first Japanese class of the Japanese major. Without learning this language for three years, he won this great prize, which was also not only the honor for our school but also showed the excellent fruits of our Japanese education department.
