The School-Opening Ceremony for 2015 Freshmen
The school-opening ceremony for 2015 freshmen was held at our school’s Student Activity Center in Canteen No. 2 on September 6, 2015. Those who attended the ceremony included the dean, Zheng Xianri; Party secretary Zhao Liang; deputy deans Quan Yongnan and Cui Xuebo; Pei Xianhua, director of the Student Affairs Office; Jin Chunxian, secretary of the CYL CFL Committee; as well as department Party secretaries, heads of all the departments and disciplines, class advisors, counselors and all the 2015 CFL freshmen. It was chaired by Liu Wen, chief of CFL’s General Office. The ceremony began with the solemn national anthem. Party secretary Zhao Liang extended a warm welcome to and raised some requirements for the freshmen on behalf of the faculty and students of the college. He expressed his hopes that all the freshmen should adapt themselves to their university life, study diligently, value the four-year university life, and improve their comprehensive abilities, so as to become qualified professionals. Dean Zheng Xianri briefly introduced the CFL to the freshmen from such aspects as a college survey, the interpretation of the college motto, and the understanding of the university motto. He especially gave a detailed explanation of the college motto “Virtue and Erudition; Diversity and Integration; Practice and Persistence”. Meanwhile, he expressed hope that the freshmen would adapt themselves to campus life as soon as possible: they should learn to study, learn to work, and learn to cultivate their character. Associate dean Cui Xuebo introduced the overall training program of the college and also hoped that freshmen should make full use of time for learning and social practice, in order to fulfill their goals. Deputy dean Quan Yongnan gave an account of the CFL’s exchange with the outside world, which shows that the CFL has made great efforts to build up more platforms for its communication with foreign teachers and students. Professor Nan Chengyu, head of the English language discipline, gave a speech on behalf of the faculty of CFL. She pointed out two aspects, that is, “what to learn and how to learn”. Freshmen should broaden their visions, acquire more knowledge, benefit from lifelong learning and cultivate their thinking habits, so as to enjoy learning. Jin Chengguan, a 2012 Russian major and chairperson of CFL’s student , on behalf of the undergraduates, embraced the newcomers and shared his personal experience in YBU and made some suggestions to them. Qin Ping, a 2015 student, gave a speech on behalf of all the freshmen. She expressed their gratitude to the leaders and teachers, and shared her own experience in the military training and her goal for the future university life. Then all the freshmen started their oath ceremony. The ceremony concluded with the school anthem. The school-opening ceremony can let freshmen know more about the CFL, help them to adapt themselves to new surroundings as soon as possible, and clarify their future orientation in YBU.
