At the invitation of CFL, Professor Shim Jae-woo, head of English Department of Teachers College and a supervisor of PhD candidates at Chonbuk National University, ROK, gave a special lecture on “Practical Method of Transforming A PPP Lesson into TBI” at our school’s West Building on July 10, 2015. Professor Zheng Xianri, Professor Cui Xuebo, Professor Zhang Zhen’ai and more than 100 teachers and students attended the lecture. In his lecture, he introduced the instructional mode to organize foreign language teaching by using authentic Internet material, which is aimed at adopting various classroom tasks to arouse the students’ interest, enhancing their learning autonomy and helping them to improve their comprehensive English proficiency. Therefore, the classroom teaching has transformed PPP lessons into TBI in an authentic language environment. Professor Shim organized a discussion with our teachers and postgraduates on the same afternoon. During the discussion, he showed them the use of educational statistical software Multiple Regression and Facet Rasch Model, and the way to employ them in academic thesis writing. Meanwhile, he also had a further discussion on the application of authentic material to English teaching with the teachers and students who were present. Professor Shim Jae-woo graduated from Chonbuk National University in 1994, and received his Master degree in TESOL at Michigan State University in 1997 and his Doctoral degree in foreign language education at Ohio State University in 2002. He served as deputy dean of the College of Language Education, Chonbuk National University from 2005 to 2008. His domain of study covers English education and second language acquisition.
